A New Jersey Trailer Bill of Sale documents the agreement between a buyer and seller. It must include the names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of both parties involved in the transfer.
The document should also provide a detailed description of the trailer, including its make, model, type, year, dimensions, and vehicle identification number (VIN).
To finalize, it should document the date of sale, the amount paid, and bear the signatures of all relevant parties.
How To Register a Trailer
Trailers over 2,500 pounds in New Jersey require titling and registration. For titling, owners must provide a motor vehicle agency with the assigned title, a Universal Title Application (Form OS/SS-UTA), and the necessary fee payment, accepting various payment methods.
For registration, all trailers used on public roads must be registered, and owners should schedule a visit to their local motor vehicle agency with the relevant documents and fees:
- Bill of Sale
- Application for Vehicle Registration (Form BA-49)
- Notarized Statement (including trailer’s manufacturer year, make, VIN, and sale price)
- Identification
- VIN (pencil tracing or photograph)
- Seller’s Registration Card
Insurance isn't mandatory but recommended.
