To register a motor vehicle in South Dakota, a Car Bill of Sale can help you transfer the title. You must complete the process within 45 days of purchase. The registration must be done in person at your local County Treasurer’s Office.

The documents that are normally required to correctly register the vehicle include :

• A completed Application for Motor Vehicle Title & Registration (Form 1001)

• Valid South Dakota driver’s license or ID
